Description

*pulls up a soap box and clears throat*

Alright you lovelies. Back in Issue 2, you might remember a little controversial scene that happened between our boys, as seen here: Issue 2, Page 20 by Longitudes-LatitudesAs an audience, all you wonderful readers were split down the middle. Some were rooting for the scene to go further, others were put off by the forceful nature of the situation. At the time, the best explanation we gave was that Andrew and Taylor were not the prime example of a healthy romance, and that Taylor, being a pirate, was not inherently a good person. While it was the best reasoning we gave at the time without giving anything away, it's time to announce that this isn't exactly true.

As the story progresses, both Andrew and Taylor experience changes to who they are fundamentally. This is absolutely necessary for their romance to flourish. Allow me to elaborate.

Taylor is used to pushing to get what he wants, especially in his life as a captain. Companionship and sex, however, were the few things that came easy to him as a man. To have someone reject or shy away from him isn't just unusual, it's never happened before. Now that his actions have been called out seriously, Taylor is forced to realize that he must listen and not just act. I partly lied before when I said Taylor wasn't a good man: sometimes he is a good man that does bad things. Sometimes he's a bad man that does good things. Either way, the important thing to note about his character is that, rather than fight against a change he needs to make, he embraces it and admits his faults so that he may develop as the story progresses.

Andrew, on the other hand, has known no lovelife. His sexual repression is so extreme that although Taylor certainly recognizes their chemistry, Andrew has not, even though it's the most obvious thing in the world. Falling in love with Taylor is a major shift in his life, and one that he can't accept so easily. Furthermore, Andrew had been raised to do as he was told and nothing else. Study, invent, and ignore distraction. Just as Taylor realizes that he must listen, Andrew now realizes that he must speak loud and clear if he wants to be heard.

Romance and commitment are in their future, but at the time of Issue 2, neither were ready to embrace it. In order for their relationship to start, both Taylor and Andrew must make changes to who they are and begin an entirely new life.

Hope that clears things up 8D
